24-hour report: Two men charged with attempted manslaughter

Two men were charged with attempted murder on Saturday after an assault on a third man in Sisimiut.

At 09.21, a violent incident was reported to the police. However, it ended with two men being charged with attempted murder, says Greenland Police Chief Aputsiaq Hansen on Sunday morning.

– The injuries to the victim were so severe that the police initially treated it as a case of aggravated assault, says Aputsiaq Hansen.

But the victim’s explanation and his condition have now turned the case into a case of attempted murder.

The two men who were detained were, in the police’s opinion, both under the influence of alcohol, and are currently being produced in the Sisimiut District Court for detention, the chief of police says.

He cannot go into further detail about the case due to the investigation.

Drunk drivers in downtown Nuuk

Early this morning, two people were stopped by patrols in Nuuk. The two people were stopped at 04:50 and 04:55 in the city center, respectively.

In both cases, there was suspicion of drunk driving, and therefore blood samples were taken from both to determine the exact blood alcohol level.

The person who was stopped at 4:55 a.m. drove into a lamppost at high speed, the duty officer says.

Aputsiaq Hansen strongly urges people not to drive after drinking.

– You are putting yourself and others at risk. A vehicle is heavy, and therefore it can cause great harm to others and itself, even if the speed is low. So you must take responsibility and not drive under the influence, he says.

Otherwise, he tells of a day with drunks, unrest at home and street disorder. A picture that applies to the entire coast, he points out.
