SiKu Trawl, based in Sisimut, has the purpose of owning and operating fishing vessels.

– I joined this because I think it’s an exciting company with some talented people.

This is what one of the four owners, KNI’s CEO, Jeppe Jensen, tells Sermitsiaq.ag.

He is the most prominent and well-known person in the group of owners. The other owners are fishermen.

– My commitment to SiKu Trawl is of course coordinated with the board of directors of KNI A/S, adds KNI’s CEO Jeppe Jensen.

The Department of Fisheries and Hunting has offered a package of quotas of 4,600 tons of Greenland halibut, 1,950 tons of cod and 166 tons of halibut off West Greenland.

The Greenland Government is expected to make a decision within a few days on which of the 12 companies, including SiKu Trawl, that have submitted a bid for the tender, will be allocated quotas. It is planned that one major player or two smaller players will be given quotas and the opportunity to establish themselves in the offshore fishery.

Commitment to purchase trawler 

The company was founded in April this year.

Three of SiKu Trawls’ owners are experienced fishermen, including chairman Tsatso Efraimsen.

 – We have a commitment to purchase a trawler, which will be ready for operation in 2026. Due to the ongoing process, we cannot at this time provide further details about the vessel or the seller, writes Tsatso Efraimsen in an email to Sermitsiaq.

– Our group of owners consists of four, three of whom are active fishermen with extensive experience. I am an active fisherman myself with many years of experience on ocean-going trawlers. This is both in practical fishing and as a production manager. As chairman of the board, I combine my professional knowledge with management experience, says 45-year-old Tsatso Efraimsen.

– He is a trained fisheries technologist, i.e. a graduate engineer, from AUC Esbjerg.

Among the other fishermen in the ownership group is 30-year-old Pavia Lund, who is a qualified fishing skipper of the 1st degree. He has experience as a mate and fisherman on trawlers. Pavia Lund is the director of SiKu Trawl.

In addition, 49-year-old Ernst Lund is a co-owner. He is a self-employed fisherman with 20 years of experience, primarily in coastal fishing. 

Jeppe Jensen: – A good mix 

– I think it is exciting to be part of a newly started company with a good mix of knowledge and skills in the ownership group, which covers the different areas within fishing. 

– As a co-owner and board member, I can supplement my knowledge and experience within business management and business development, says Jeppe Jensen. 

He points out that the ownership group is relatively young and has ambitions to eventually engage in fishing in several parts of the country in a development based on the company’s raw materials, just as there are also great ambitions for the development of the company. 

Jeppe Jensen has served as CEO of KNI for the past four years. Previously, he was sales director at Tele-Post, now Tusass, and worked in Polar Rajaat’s administration.

– SiKu Trawl is 100 percent Greenlandic, all owners have permanent residence in the country and are fully liable to tax here. We have a clear business plan, which in the company’s first year includes cooperation with established players until our own ship is acquired. This is to ensure a stable start, says chairman Tsatso Efraimsen.

The former Greenlandic Government decided in December 2024 to reserve part of the offshore quotas for halibut and cod in West Greenland in order to spread ownership of the quotas and give new companies access to the fishery.

The quotas were offered on February 7th this year. The application deadline was April 30th.

As Sermitsiaq.ag has previously written, Halibut Greenland and the newly founded company, Avalleq, have also bid on the offer of offshore quotas for halibut and cod. Avalleq is owned by the pension fund SISA and former Naalakkersuisoq Karl-Kristian Kruse.
