Icelandair is set to expand its horizons this summer with a new route to Qaqortoq, South Greenland. Beginning in June 2026, the airline will operate four flights each week from Keflavik, providing residents and visitors alike with convenient access to this stunning region.

Passengers can look forward to flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays during the peak summer months. As the summer winds down, Icelandair will continue to serve Qaqortoq with two flights a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays in September.

While the landscape and rich history of South Greenland will remain a constant draw, the arrival of Icelandair marks a significant change in air travel for the area. The airline reassured potential travelers on social media that Qaqortoq’s breathtaking vistas and cultural heritage will endure, regardless of the operational shifts.

In the past, Icelandair has focused its services on Narsarsuaq; however, with the new Qaqortoq airport preparing to open, Narsarsuaq will soon cease regular air traffic.

Meanwhile, Air Greenland has already taken steps to bolster connectivity, selling tickets for its own flights between Nuuk and Qaqortoq starting mid-April.

Though an official opening date for Qaqortoq Airport is yet to be announced, Icelandair has confirmed that operations are expected to start in April, heralding a new era for travel in this picturesque region.
