On Monday evening at approximately 5:30 PM, a fire erupted near the power plant in Aasiaat, prompting an immediate response from both police and firefighters. Once the flames were extinguished, it became clear that the blaze had ignited surrounding pipelines.

This incident led to a significant consequence: the water pumps responsible for cooling the power plant were rendered inoperable, which in turn caused a citywide power outage. Thomas Jeppsen, the head of duty at the Greenland Police, confirmed this disruption to residents.

By Tuesday, investigators from the police department will begin examining the site to determine the cause of the fire. Jeppsen noted, “The investigation aims to establish whether the origin of the fire poses any ongoing danger or if it’s due to something else entirely.” He emphasized that it’s still too premature to draw any conclusions at this stage.

Residents were relieved to regain power later that night, around 11:30 PM, according to the warden’s report. The community now awaits further updates as investigations unfold.
