Record Air Passenger Numbers Driven by Nuuk Airport

In a remarkable display of growth, Nuuk Airport has played a pivotal role in significantly boosting air travel in Greenland. According to recent data from Greenland’s Statistics, the surge in scheduled flights has led to an impressive increase in passenger volume.

Statistics from September 2025 reveal a 20% uptick in passengers compared to the same month last year. It’s worth noting that the figures for Nuuk Airport in September 2024 may have been slightly skewed due to a temporary ban on foreign travel.

Cumulatively, from January to September this year, the number of air travelers reached 95,123. This number is strikingly close to the total for all of 2024, which recorded 96,817 passengers.

What’s particularly telling is that Nuuk has outpaced the passenger numbers historically seen at Kangerlussuaq Airport. Nonetheless, Kangerlussuaq remains the second busiest airport in the country in terms of passenger traffic for 2025.

With the opening of new routes—including a much-anticipated connection to New York in June—Nuuk Airport continues to shape the landscape of air travel in Greenland, reflecting a broader trend of increased connectivity and growth.
