In a remarkable turnaround, Kalaallit Nunaanni Brugseni reported a profit of seven million kroner after tax for the year 2023, following a challenging 2024 that saw a staggering deficit of DKK 14.464 million. Just the previous year, the grocery company managed a modest profit of one million, while 2022 was marked by a loss of three million kroner.

The newly released financial results reflect a revitalized strategy from Brugseni, which aims to adapt to the changing needs of its customer base.

    ### A Boost from Tourism and Revamped Marketing Efforts

One of the key drivers behind this increased revenue has been a notable uptick in tourist traffic to Nuuk and Ilulissat during the summer months. Alongside this, Brugseni also inaugurated its newly renovated store, Brugseni Natalie, located in the Nuussuaq area of Nuuk, and has refined its marketing approach.

In a press release, Managing Director Allan Kristoffersen noted the positive impact of these changes, crediting not just the board and management but also the dedicated team of over 600 employees.

“We are beginning to see the results of all the changes that have been made,” he stated. Kristoffersen is optimistic about the road ahead, expressing confidence that Brugseni will continue to see profit in the forthcoming years. “We have a strong community, and I believe we will maintain our growth and good results, ultimately benefiting our members, customers, and Greenlandic society,” he remarked.

    ### A Focus on Greenlandic Goods and a New Strategic Direction

Brugseni’s announcement also unveiled a forward-thinking strategy named “Brugseni Shows the Way,” which is set to guide the company until 2028. This initiative aims to enhance facilities and shops, prioritize health and responsibility, and establish the Brugseni Academy for education and training.

Moreover, the company is committed to increasing the availability of Greenlandic products in its stores. Board Chairman Avijâja Rosing-Olsen emphasized the importance of this new era for Brugseni. “With this strategy, we seek to lead the way in grocery retail and take responsibility in every city we serve, thereby contributing to the development of Greenland,” she stated.

Brugseni seems poised not just for recovery, but for growth, as it charts a new course in a rapidly changing landscape.
