Greenland’s Business is excited to announce that registrations are now open for the 10th edition of the Future Greenland conference, scheduled for May 19-20 in Nuuk. This year, the focus will be on Greenland’s potential amid an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape.
As tensions escalate globally, the conference aims to examine Greenland’s pivotal role and the myriad opportunities available for business development both domestically and on the world stage.
“The importance of a robust business community for Greenland’s future has never been clearer than it is today,” states Christian Keldsen, Director of Greenland’s Business Life. He emphasizes the need to recognize and act on the opportunities presented by our current circumstances.
A Call for Collaboration
The sentiment shared among leaders has evolved to echo the phrase: “Nothing about business—without business.” Keldsen notes that as challenges arise, they can also serve as avenues for growth. “We must not let a good crisis go to waste,” he reflects, citing Winston Churchill. Given the current climate, Keldsen anticipates that registration will fill rapidly, with a cap of 500 participants.
Insights from Across the Seas
The conference will also draw inspiration from the experiences of the Faroe Islands, particularly in championing their blue economy. A presentation by Høgni Høydahl, a member of the Faroese parliament, will highlight how they have successfully integrated energy, fishing, and tourism.
In addition to discussions on emerging technologies like AI and cryptocurrency, attendees will also explore the raw materials sector and enjoy an aerial view of Greenland—a unique opportunity that promises to reshape perspectives.
Global Engagement
The conference will facilitate discussions featuring notable representatives from NATO, the EU, and the United States to enhance understanding of Greenland’s place in global affairs. There will be particular attention on expanding trade relations with France under the “View from Paris” theme, alongside a larger Canadian delegation this year. China’s role in Arctic dynamics will also be a key topic on the agenda.
Diverse Perspectives on Display
A lineup of distinguished speakers will grace the event, including Rufus Gifford, former US ambassador to Denmark; Janis Sarts, director of NATO’s strategic communications; Arctic ambassador Kenneth Høegh; and former politician Aqqaluk Lynge. Innovations in format will include an ambassador lounge and breakout sessions designed to foster deeper engagement among participants.
Fostering Youth Involvement
Following last year’s success, the youth conference “The Future of Greenland” will return on May 6, supported by sponsorships from various organizations including the Bank of Greenland and the British Embassy. This event seeks to empower young voices and engage them in meaningful dialogue about the future. Attendees of the Future Greenland conference will have the chance to connect with participants from this youth initiative.
