Bankivik’s country director is leaving after 24 years in Greenland.

Bankivik will have a new director.

After just over 20 years in Greenland, the previous country director Jesper Hansen has decided, together with his wife Irene, to return to Denmark and his native island of Funen.

    BankivikAnnouncement

After just over 20 years in Greenland, the previous country director Jesper Hansen has decided, together with his wife Irene, to return to Denmark and his native island of Funen.

Since Jesper Hansen joined the Bank of Greenland as a business customer consultant, he has held several top positions in the Greenlandic business community. In the years 2006 – 2014, he was CEO of ISS Greenland, which at that time, with over 300 employees, was one of Greenland’s largest private companies.

He then went on to work for Heca and Greenland Ruby, among others, before returning to the banking world in 2020 as first a business advisor and then a business director at Bankivik. Jesper Hansen has been a country director at Bankivik since 2022.

Throughout his years in Greenland, Jesper Hansen has also held several positions of trust in Greenland Business – including as a board member in the period 2010 – 2011.

    Well-attended reception

Bankivik said goodbye to Jesper Hansen at a well-attended reception last week.

    – The meeting with the Greenlanders – Inuit – the people – and the culture – has made an indelible impression on us – as has the overwhelming Greenlandic nature. For both Irene and me, it has also been a personal journey and development to have a home in Greenland for more than 20 years. I would argue that it has made us better, more whole, spacious and tolerant people, said Jesper Hansen in his farewell speech, which was primarily aimed at his colleagues at the bank.

In connection with the move, Jesper Hansen will also step down as Spanish consul in Greenland. So it’s not just Bankivik that now has to find a new director. It’s also King Felipe who will now have to find a new consul.
