Defense helicopter takes off for display
On Wednesday afternoon, Arctic Command will perform a rescue demonstration with one of the two helicopters that landed in the capital a few days ago.
If the weather permits, one of the two defense helicopters currently in Nuuk will take off to do a rescue demonstration today at four o’clock.
The helicopter takes off from Kolonihavnen and will be in the air over Nuuk to demonstrate how a SAR rescue proceeds.
This means that the helicopter will hoist a man out of the water, as it would if a person were in distress. The Arctic Command writes on Facebook.
The helicopter is somewhat more powerful than the helicopters you are used to seeing in the city, but the flight is just a display, says Arctic Command.
The two EH-101 Merlin helicopters are in Greenland as part of the Danish Armed Forces’ increased presence in this country over the coming period.
If the fog remains over Nuuk, the demonstration will be postponed to a day when the weather permits.
