Director: I can’t promise it won’t get more expensive

In 2024, Nukissiorfiit had a deficit of 60 million kroner, and one of the possible solutions to create financial balance is for consumers to pay more.

Nukissiorfiit is still in a difficult financial situation. In 2024, the self-governing company had a deficit of 60 million kroner. This is not a new development. In the past five financial years, the company has had an average annual deficit of around 82 million kroner.

If the company’s finances are to be better balanced, the director believes that another rate increase for consumers after the New Year could be one of the options.

– At the turn of the year 2025, the prices for electricity and water were already raised. That is one of the ways – yes, those are some of the tools that are used continuously to adjust Nukissiorfiit’s economy, says Johan Danielsen to KNR.

Since the New Year, the price of electricity has increased – among other things, the kilowatt price has been raised from 1.81 øre at the end of last year to now be 6 øre higher. The price increase is considered a necessary step towards a more sustainable economy.

– This will of course benefit Nukissiorfiit’s finances, says the director.

Therefore, he cannot promise that consumers will not pay more for heating, water and electricity in the future.

– I can’t promise that. But in line with price developments, we also have to look at what the money is spent on – maintenance and modernization, says Johan Danielsen.

Unsatisfied

In 2022, Nukissiorfiit was short 1.8 billion kroner for the maintenance of their facilities and properties. And investments in this particular area must be aligned with the goal of creating financial balance, says the director.

If too much is invested in renovation without having more money available, it will have a negative effect on the company’s finances at the end of the year.

But investing too little in repairing worn-out facilities is not good either – it will only lead to values eroding even more.

– To achieve balance, we must also take expenses seriously. It’s not just about income and prices, says Johan Danielsen.
