Destination Disco BayAnnouncement

The company is part of the Qeqertalik Business Council in Aasiaat, which is the municipality’s business council.

– We are a development organization focused on promoting the region and disseminating information to travel agents, stakeholders and potential visitors. Our role is to be a link between tourists, travel agents and local providers, says destination manager Navarana Bidstrup from Aasiaat.

Potential partners

During her stay in the USA, she has had good and constructive conversations with travel agents who already offer activities that are a great fit for Qeqertalik, and Navarana Bidstup has shared relevant information with them.

– They are potential partners and customers who may choose to include our destination in their programs – especially with the upcoming new international airport in Ilulissat, which will open next year. It will provide even better access and create new opportunities for tourism development in the area, Bidstrup tells Sermitsiaq.

Navarana Bidstrup expects increasing interest in Greenland and is working purposefully to make the region more visible internationally and easily accessible to partners and visitors in a sustainable way.

 Cheaper and better marketing

Destination manager Navarana Bidstrup participated in the travel fair in Denver and represented the Qeqertalik region with Destination Diskobay, together with Visit Greenland, Explore North Greenland, Arctic Circle Business and several private tour operators from Greenland.

There were several exciting sessions and meetings to participate in.

Among other things, representatives from some of the world’s leading travel destinations met to share experiences, challenges and knowledge, Navarana Bidstrup informs in her newsletter on the business council’s website.

One of the sessions focused on saving money on marketing, which is a growing opportunity – especially for adventure tourism players.

It was highlighted how companies can reach their target groups more cost-effectively through partnerships and targeted marketing, without spending large sums on advertising.

It was also reported that tour operators are increasingly using YouTube to find information and inspiration when choosing new destinations, Navarana Bidstrup says in the newsletter after the travel fair.

A particularly strong session was about how companies can handle situations in the event of accidents or crises.

Among other things, it was presented how to prepare for legal aspects and challenges through realistic scenarios, says the destination manager.

Increased attention

It is Navarana Bidstrup’s experience from Denver that Greenland is currently experiencing increased attention from the American market.

– With the new direct flight between Newark and Nuuk opening on June 14, it was crucial to participate in this event, she says, adding in her newsletter:

“The aim has been to highlight that Greenland is much more than Nuuk – and to focus on the region’s many opportunities: unique experiences, local tour operators, accommodation and practical information that travel agencies and stakeholders demand. In this way, Disko Bay is also positioned as a visible and accessible destination on the international market”.

Navarana Bidstrup thanks Visit Greenland and Nalik Ventures for their support of the participation fee.

– In this way, they have contributed to making Qeqertalik visible as an international destination, she emphasizes.
