On Sunday morning, French President Emanuel Macron landed in Nuuk on an official visit.

The French President, Emanuel Macron, has just landed in Nuuk.

The visit is an official visit, in which the Danish Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen (S), will also participate. The two government leaders will meet with the President of the Greenland Government, Jens-Frederik Nielsen (D).

Together, the three will visit Buksefjorden, and then the day will end with a press conference in Nuuk this afternoon, after which Emanuel Macron will leave Greenland again.

    France has shown support

The visit comes after US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire for control over Greenland for both ‘national and international security.’

But it has been rejected by both Greenland and Denmark several times, and France has shown support several times by, among other things, expressing that the country was ready to send soldiers to Greenland if Denmark asked for it to resist pressure from the United States.

The French president is expected to fly again early this evening.
