    Finding of coliform bacteria: Boil the water in Narsarsuaq

    Residents of Narsarsuaq must boil their drinking water before using it. Authorities recommend this after coliform bacteria were found in the water.

    Elevated levels of a specific type of coliform bacteria have been found in the drinking water in Narsarsuaq. Therefore, the authorities now recommend that you boil the water before use until further notice.

    The water can be harmful to your health if it is not boiled.

    This is what the Ministry of Nature and Environment writes.

    – To ensure the health of citizens, the authorities have issued a cooking recommendation, which takes effect immediately, the press release states.

    What to do

      Boil all your drinking water for at least 1 minute before using it for drinking, cooking, feeding children or brushing teeth. Boil water before using it for: Drinking, cooking, rinsing fruits and vegetables, washing dishes by hand, making ice cubes and cleaning wounds. You do not need to boil water for: Showering, washing hands and cleaning. But avoid drinking the water during these activities.

    The Ministry of Nature and Environment states that Nukissiorfiit is working to resolve the problem as soon as possible. In addition, citizens of Narsarsuaq are encouraged to follow updates from the authorities.
