But even though it was early in the morning, there was a festive atmosphere at Aalborg Airport upon departure.
Glad bureauchef
The happiest person was probably agency manager Morten Meyer from the Danish travel agency Ruby Rejser, which is behind the new flight route, which offers low-cost tickets as low as just 1998 kroner for a flight between the capital of North Jutland and the capital of Greenland.
– Sales have been fantastic – and today I dare to promise that we will be back on track next year, said Morten Meyer, Ruby Travel.
– Approximately 30 percent of today’s passengers are group travelers, who we send on a charter trip to Greenland with a hotel and lots of experiences. The rest of the passengers are regular air travelers who want the easy trip from Aalborg directly to Nuuk.
Morten Meyer was also pleased that the cargo hold was full on the Boeing 737-800 from Airseven, which is used on the route. Arctic Import has set itself the goal of handling 50 percent of the cargo on the northbound flights,
Low-cost tickets
There has been great interest in the route, which was launched by Ruby Travel in August last year with ticket prices as low as 1998 kroner for a single ticket.
At the same time, Air Greenland also had plans for a direct route between Nuuk and Aalborg – and those considerations ended with a codeshare cooperation between the two companies.
It presented some challenges before the maiden flight, with queues that were literally inches long at check-in.
– We were a bit challenged by the systems, explained Air Greenland’s Director of Sustainability and Communications Inga Dora Gudmundsdottir Markussen.
– In short, it caused us problems when we had to get Airseven and our system to talk to Aalborg Airport’s system. But we should be able to solve it in a few days.
There was coffee and croissants for the passengers before departure on today’s maiden flight to Greenland. There was of course also a red ribbon cutting ceremony
