Greenland Ski Association Sends Four Talented Juniors to World Championship in Lillehammer
The team representing Greenland includes Sasja Hendriksen, Marika Magnussen, Qunaaq Jensen, and Elias Nordahl Wallbohm.
This selection marks a significant milestone for Greenlandic cross-country skiing, as noted by the Greenland Ski Association, which cites a newfound emphasis on nurturing young talent as the driving force behind this achievement.
The youth national team recently completed an intensive eight-day training camp in Saalfelden, Austria, where they also took part in the Austrian championships for both sprint and distance events.
“In the sprints, Qunaaq Jensen, Malik Olsen, Sasja Hendriksen Joelsen, and Marika Magnussen advanced to the semi-finals—a remarkable feat given the high international standard of competitors, and a vital experience for them as they aim for the global stage,” the association reported.
A Testament to Will and Discipline
National coach Martin Møller remarked:
“The athletes have demonstrated exceptional will and discipline throughout their training, showing noticeable improvement in both their technical skills and mental resilience. The results we witnessed in Austria confirm that our commitment to talent development is truly beginning to pay off.”
The Greenland Ski Association emphasizes that the insights gained from their time in Austria will play a crucial role in progressing the development of these young athletes, with the upcoming Junior World Championship serving as both a pinnacle and a vital stepping stone for the future of Greenland’s cross-country skiing.
