GE: – The labor market must avoid social dumping
The Director of Greenland’s Chamber of Commerce urges that one not generalize when the topic is Asian labor in Greenland.
– Our work is to avoid social dumping and ensure good conditions for our companies’ employees.
– Our work
– There is a shortage of labor, and in addition to general good human behavior, word quickly spreads if a company does not treat its employees properly, and thus it becomes more difficult to run a business with employees.

– Furthermore, it is not decisive whether you are a member of an employers’ organization or not. Everyone must comply with legislation. That is one of the beauties of our society as a whole and the strength of the so-called Scandinavian/Danish model, where the social partners negotiate the terms that will apply.
Said by Christian Keldsen, director of Greenland’s Chamber of Commerce, GE, which represents up to 80 percent of the payroll of private companies in Greenland.
He informs AG that GE rarely has cases where companies do not comply with collective agreements and exploit Asian labor.
– We are pleased to know that several of our companies encourage their employees, including international colleagues, to join SIK. Greenland Business greatly assists our members, including the work of ensuring correct conditions in connection with applications to SIRI and the municipalities in cases where there is a need to recruit international colleagues.
Christian Keldsen believes that SIK and Greenland Business have a common goal of creating good conditions for their members:
– The common goal of GE and SIK is good conditions for employees. A lot of work is therefore put into the preparation and negotiation of the collective agreements and subsequent follow-up if a case arises. Fortunately, it is extremely rare that we have such cases, as companies, among other things, join GE precisely to be part of the good and healthy labor market, says Christian Keldsen, who also urges that one not generalize when companies use labor from the East.
– No matter who you are, you have the right to be treated properly. It’s always a shame if a few bitter people want to create doubt about this and ruin it for others. Greenland has had people from Asia for decades now, and the companies behave properly and are good at integrating international colleagues in the workplace.
