The event will start at 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM and is free and open to everyone.
During the event, visitors can meet pilots, technicians and personnel from the Danish Armed Forces, and gain a very special insight into the work with fighter aircraft in the Arctic.
The defense’s increased presence in the Arctic
The Danish Armed Forces currently have an increased presence in Greenland, where both soldiers and fighter jets are participating in exercises. According to the head of Arctic Command, Major General Søren Andersen, this is part of the Danish Armed Forces’ work to build experience in operating in Arctic conditions.
That is why the Arctic Command is inviting citizens all over Greenland to a series of open house events. The purpose is to give citizens the opportunity to meet the soldiers, see the ships and aircraft up close and ask questions to the Armed Forces.
– We hold open house events so that citizens have the opportunity to meet the soldiers themselves, see the ships and hear about our task solution, just as it is very valuable for our soldiers and crews to meet the locals and hear their questions and perspectives, writes Søren Andersen in a written response to KNR.
Previously, it has been possible to board the frigate Niels Juel. On Sunday, the Armed Forces also held a citizens’ meeting in Nuuk. In addition, the Inspection Ship Triton will visit several ports in South Greenland in the coming days with both an open ship and live music.
The three F-16 fighter jets can be seen in the air over Greenland during the week – especially around Kangerlussuaq from Monday afternoon and throughout the week.
