Northern Europe’s Largest Fishing Fair Takes Center Stage in Aalborg with Focus on Greenland
On a crisp Tuesday morning, the bustling halls of the Aalborg Congress and Culture Center welcomed the region’s largest fishing fair, Danfish, drawing attention to the unique fishing practices and rich culture of Greenland.
Central to the fair’s offerings, Greenland has established a significant presence within a dedicated exhibition space. In collaboration with the Greenland House in Aalborg, the center has created a vibrant display inviting attendees to immerse themselves in the varied facets of Greenlandic fishing and culture. Visitors can indulge their senses through a combination of informative texts, captivating images, tantalizing tastings, and engaging virtual experiences that bring the essence of Greenland directly to them.
During the opening ceremony, Nicolaj Holm, director of Aalborg Congress and Culture Center, highlighted the Greenlandic exhibition, urging participants to explore the stands and discover the treasures they hold.
A Fortunate Meeting of Minds
Prominent among the attendees was Lars Erik Gabrielsen, the mayor of Avannaata Kommunia. He was joined by municipal manager Nick Nielsen and their team, who will be promoting the upcoming Polar Expo, set to take place in Ilulissat next October. This event promises to be a significant highlight in the Arctic calendar.
In conjunction with the Polar Expo, the Aalborg Congress and Culture Center is also gearing up for the Arctic Expo, which will occur for the first time in Nuuk this spring. Both events are being organized with the expertise of AKKC, ensuring a well-structured and impactful experience for all involved.
A Global Gathering
With expectations of attracting between 12,000 and 15,000 participants from fifty countries over the fair’s three days, Danfish is more than just an industry event. It has become a staple for those in Greenland, many of whom return for their autumn holidays specifically to engage with Danfish. For Greenlanders residing in Denmark, the fair serves as a cherished meeting place, fostering connections between exhibitors and visitors from around the globe.
Among the notable Greenlandic exhibitors at this year’s event are Tusass, the Swedish Telecom Agency, Avannaata Kommunia, Qalut Vónin, KNAPK, KONFIFA, Royal Arctic Line, and the Department of Fisheries and Fisheries.
As the fair unfolds, it promises not only to showcase the best of Greenland but also to build bridges of understanding and appreciation within the international fishing community.
