KAK: If the door to Concacaf is closed, then we have to look for other doors
The Greenland Football Association, KAK, demands to speak out against the North American and Caribbean Association Football Confederation, Concacaf, after being rejected for membership.
It is a tough pill to swallow for the Greenland Football Association, KAK, that it did not become a member of an international football federation this time either.
The North American and Caribbean Association Football Confederation, Concacaf, has rejected Greenland’s application for membership. And before that, the European federation, UEFA, has rejected Greenland’s membership. Greenland’s disappointment is particularly pronounced because Greenland has not been invited to an interview throughout the process.
– We had otherwise been waiting for a meeting and were therefore very disappointed that the decision was made without a meeting having been held, says chairman of KAK Kenneth Kleist to KNR.
Therefore, KAK demands to be heard by Concacaf and, not least, to hear their arguments for rejection.
– We are currently investigating the reason for the rejection. Especially because we only received a letter stating that our application has been rejected, says Kenneth Kleist.
Looking towards Europe
Alternating boards of the Greenland Football Association have worked on preparing an application for membership in an international federation. Rejection without argument therefore leaves a strange taste in the mouth.
– We would like to hear Concacaf’s arguments for the rejection and whether there are any possibilities in the future to change anything that could benefit us. That is why I have requested a meeting with the president of Concacaf, says Kenneth Kleist.
But KAK fears that the door to Concacaf has already been permanently closed to Greenland, and therefore the association is seeking new avenues for international cooperation.
– The doors are now closed that way. We were prepared for a possible rejection, especially because there wasn’t even a meeting, says Kenneth Kleist.
– But if we are to look forward, it is quite natural to have cooperation with Iceland, the Faroe Islands, Denmark and possibly also Norway and Sweden. We have to look towards Europe if we want to move forward.
– Concacaf is a closed chapter, but other doors will be opened, concludes Kenneth Kleist.
