With a Strong Team of Instructors, Greenland Prepares to Nurture the Futsal Talents of Tomorrow

KAK’s instructors play a pivotal role in cultivating the next generation of futsal coaches, enhancing training environments across Greenland.

Last weekend in Nuuk, six of Greenland’s most passionate futsal instructors—Patrick Frederiksen, Malik Mikaelsen, Rass Abelsen, Mikki Brønlund, John Pedersen, and Alex Hermansen—sat down for an intensive education session. They completed the B1 course, marking the first stage in a progressive two-part curriculum aimed at elevating coaching standards in the region.

This initiative is part of the Kalaallit Arsartartut Kattuffiat (KAK)’s broader commitment to improve both the sport’s quality and its educational framework within community clubs. These instructors are not just teaching; they are vital architects in shaping the future of futsal in Greenland.

By 2025, KAK plans to offer courses in nine different cities, responding to a growing demand for higher-level training. The aim is simple yet ambitious: every club coach should have access to relevant training tailored to their daily coaching challenges.

“The interest in futsal is at an all-time high, and our instructors bear a significant responsibility,” KAK notes. “They are helping to forge the coaches of tomorrow, which directly influences the future of futsal in our communities.”

The instructors take on multifaceted roles: they are educators, mentors, cultural translators, and role models. Their mission extends beyond skill development; it includes fostering a safe and motivational training atmosphere for coaches of every level, providing them with practical tools essential for both training and competition.

KAK’s commitment to coach training—backed wholeheartedly by its board—reflects a strategic vision for the long-term growth of sports in Greenland. As part of this initiative, KAK sees potential for futsal to find its place within the primary school physical education curriculum. The organization is prepared to engage in discussions with municipalities and educational institutions, contingent on political and administrative support.

Looking ahead, KAK plans to launch two additional instructor courses before year-end, a move aimed at bolstering the ranks of instructors and enriching the skill set within Greenland’s ever-expanding community of futsal coaches.
