Reflecting on 2025: Voices from Nuuk Center

As we approach the end of the year, opinions about 2025 vary widely. Some might point to headlines dominated by global politics, ongoing conflicts, or even the United States’ ambitions regarding Greenland. Others may remember it for more personal milestones — perhaps the release of a new nail polish collection or Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s heartfelt apology to victims of the spiral case.

However, while some events make the news and fill column inches, each individual’s experience tells a unique story. To capture the spirit of this year, KNR sent a reporter to Nuuk Center, where local traders shared what they’ll cherish most about 2025.

    New Year, New Beginnings

“It’s been a wonderful year, albeit with its challenges,” reflects Vera Lea Kristensen Raage, who is among the friendly faces at Nuuk Center. “We’ve made the most of our time and truly enjoyed ourselves.”

For Vera, a significant highlight came from her time living in Ilulissat. “That stands out as my most cherished memory from this year,” she shares.

The year has also brought joy to Thyge and Vivi S. Berthelsen, who recently relocated from Maniitsoq to Nuuk to be closer to their grandson. “It’s hard to pinpoint a single memory; so much has unfolded this year,” Thyge admits. “The move, in particular, has been a significant change for us.”

Vivi adds, “It’s been a good experience filled with new adventures.” Among the highlights, she treasures the family time shared with her grandson, including trips to Denmark and northern Norway. “All those experiences are memories I’ll take with me from 2025,” she says.

    Finding Balance

Many others in Nuuk Center recount a year rich with experiences. Nukaaraq Karolussen is no exception. “I’ve had so many memorable moments this year. Of course, there have been challenges, but there are so many good memories,” he reflects. Football played a significant role in his year. “I helped secure the championship with our U13 team—not just once, but twice!”

Both Nukaaraq Karolussen (left) and Kirsten Holm (right) will remember 2025 as a year with many events. For Kirsten, however, it's also been about finding calm. Photo ©: KNR

Kirsten Holm, meanwhile, views 2025 as a mostly positive year, despite feeling the passage of time. “I’m learning to live with what life brings. Sure, I feel myself getting older, but I strive to keep up with all the different happenings around me,” she shares. “In the end, I’ve become calmer and found a more peaceful pace of life.”
