Local Teen Claims Jutland Boxing Championship Title

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, 17-year-old Milo Qvist Markussen emerged victorious in the U19 boxing finals, clinching the title at the Jutland Beginner Championship held in Odder on March 8. Milo dominated the match, winning decisively with a score of 5-0.

His father, Johannes Qvist-Markussen, shared his pride in the aftermath of the victory. “He was very busy. He was happy—and proud, of course,” he remarked, reflecting on the momentous occasion.

Sermitsiaq caught up with Johannes on Monday, just a day after Milo’s triumph. He watched the match unfold live from Nuuk, and the excitement was palpable.

“I shivered. I usually don’t shake when he’s boxing. But this time it was very exciting,” Johannes said.

Originally from Nuuk, Milo moved to Denmark in 2022 and currently resides in Aabybro, where he is enrolled in the Preparatory Basic Education program (FGU). Soon, he’ll be taking on an internship with the Home Guard in addition to pursuing his passion for boxing at the Pandrup Boxing Club. Interestingly, it was only after his relocation to Denmark that he truly began his boxing journey.

The Jyske Beginner Boxing Championships spanned from March 6 to March 8, culminating in Milo’s final bout, where he faced off against an opponent from Lindholm Bokseklub. He had already secured his place in the championship by defeating a boxer from Hinnerup Bokseklub in the semi-finals, also with a commanding 5-0 score.

As the weekend’s thrilling competition came to an end, the excitement for Milo’s future in boxing is just beginning. His father summed it up best: “It ended in victory,” and there’s no denying that the exhilarating journey has only just begun for this promising young athlete.
