Muskox Hunting Delayed Due to Unusual Weather Patterns
The absence of ice cover and snow in the mountains has led to the postponement of muskox hunting in several regions. This unusual weather phenomenon has raised concerns among local authorities and hunters alike.
Earlier this week, authorities announced that hunts in Kangerlussuaq would be delayed, and now the same decision has been made for the Sisimiut area. The Department of Fisheries, Catching, Agriculture, and Self-Supply confirmed this in a press release.
The primary reason for the postponement is the lack of both ice and snow. The department highlighted the peculiar weather conditions in Kangerlussuaq, noting that no ice has formed in the fjord and there’s an absence of snow on the land.
To address these challenges, the ministry is collaborating with the fishermen’s and trappers’ organization and Qeqqata Kommunia to closely monitor the weather. Together, they will determine when conditions may allow the winter hunt to commence.
