Continued Hunting Opportunities for Commercial Trappers
As the year draws to a close in 2025, commercial hunters will still have the chance to pursue wolverines, a decision stemming from ongoing economic challenges in particular administrative regions. This announcement comes from the Naalakkersuisut, highlighting their commitment to supporting local livelihoods.
Under current regulations, commercial trappers are permitted to catch up to 20 loons per day until December 31, 2025. However, it’s important to note that sales of this catch can only occur within the specific management areas where the hunting takes place.
In a positive development for both commercial trappers and individuals eager to purchase lomvies, the Naalakkersuisut has extended the hunting period for red foxes in zone 3, which stretches from Qeqertarsuaq to Nanortalik. This extension allows those with commercial hunting licenses to continue their activities until the stroke of midnight on December 31, 2025.
Hunting for lomvies will proceed under the same conditions outlined in the existing executive order: a limit of 20 loons per hunting day, with sales restricted to the trappers’ home administrative areas. The rationale behind the extension stems from a notable lack of income opportunities in certain regions, including a decline in the purchase of sealskins, as detailed in a recent press release from the Naalakkersuisut.
