– There is no doubt that the total supply of airline seats also results in a significantly increased demand over the summer, says Jørgen S. Bay-Kastrup.
With the new international flight connections, the prices of airline tickets have fallen due to greater competition, but the US president’s interest in Greenland also has an effect, he estimates.
– Trump has provided invaluable marketing, so that everyone today knows where Greenland is – no matter how unpleasant the rhetoric is – and that may have encouraged a visit, says the hotel manager.
Nuuk as a hub

Many travelers to Ilulissat and other coastal destinations choose to spend a night or two in Nuuk – either before or after their onward journey – which is directly reflected in the hotel occupancy.
– However, we should not ignore the fact that Nuuk in 2025 and 2026 will benefit from the fact that everyone who goes on holiday on the coast – including the many who visit the largest summer destination, Ilulissat, every year – will have to go through Nuuk.
– We can see that many people choose to spend a night or two in Nuuk before and/or after the trip out of Nuuk, just to get Nuuk on the ‘map’.
– Just as cruise lines are slowly figuring out how to use Nuuk to exchange passengers and crew – which also means guests in the beds, says the hotel manager.
Nuuk’s development as a tourist town
The hotel director explains that Nuuk as a tourism destination is becoming more and more professional and expanding year by year. Among other things, Hotel Hans Egede has built the low-cost hotel HHE-Express as well as hotel apartments in the city center.
