Greenland to Forge Handball Ties with Iceland and the Faroe Islands
In a significant move for the North Atlantic sporting scene, Greenland is preparing to sign a cooperation agreement aimed at bolstering handball in partnership with Iceland and the Faroe Islands.
The initiative, driven by TAAK Greenland Handball, was orchestrated to enhance collaboration among the three nations’ handball associations. Key components of the agreement will include joint training camps and the exchange of coaches, all geared towards fostering development within each country’s handball framework.
The official signing ceremony is slated for October 15 in Reykjavik, coinciding with halftime of a highly anticipated televised European Championship qualifier. During this match, Iceland’s women’s A national team will face off against the Faroe Islands’ women’s A national team.
While Greenland is not participating in the European Championship qualifiers—being a member of the North American continent’s handball federation, NACHC, rather than the European Handball Federation (EHF)—the national team will still be on the move. They are set to conduct an independent training camp in Iceland during the same timeframe.
This agreement not only marks a pivotal step in uniting handball efforts across these three nations but also aims to strengthen the bonds of cooperation and camaraderie in the North Atlantic region.
