Norwegian tourists are a new opportunity
For many Norwegians, it is easier to go to Aalborg than to Copenhagen, so a new flight route opens Greenland to the Norwegian tourist market.
The new direct flight route between Nuuk and Aalborg opens Greenland to Norwegian tourists.

That’s what Målfrid Fossestøl from Kristiansand, who was on the maiden flight from Aalborg, thinks.
– When you live in the southern part of Norway, it is much easier to go to Aalborg by car instead of flying via Copenhagen, she explains.
– It only takes three hours to sail to Hirtshals – and then there is the motorway to Aalborg. It is also very cheap to park at Aalborg Airport compared to the parking prices at Norwegian airports.
For school teacher Målfrid Fossestøl, it was an old dream that came true when she sat on the plane to Nuuk. She jumped at the chance as soon as she heard about the new flight route.
– I have a good friend who works in Nuuk – and I will be staying with her while I am in Nuuk. We have both been members of the Christian women’s network in Kristiansand for 10 years, so it is a kind of anniversary that we celebrate when I go to Nuuk.
Everyone knows Greenland
– Everyone in Norway knows a little about Greenland. Norway is the homeland of the great polar explorers, and all children hear about polar explorers in school.
Among the Norwegian polar explorers, Målfrid Fossestøl highlights the Peace Prize winner Fridjof Nansen, who in 1888 was the first to cross the ice sheet on skis.
– But now less can do it too. So I’m especially looking forward to visiting my friend and seeing how she lives and thrives in modern Greenland. I’ve heard a lot about it, but I have a hard time imagining what Nuuk looks like with high-rise buildings and paved streets.
– But my friend has now also promised me that we will see the ski lift, explains Målfrid Fossestøl.
Norwegian branch looks at the market
Sør- and Østlandet, the two most populous regions in Southern Norway, are home to a total of 2.7 million people. That is half of the Norwegian population.
The travel agency Ruby Rejser, which has taken the initiative for the new flight route, has not yet targeted sales of the new flight route in Norway.
– But we have a branch in Norway, Ruby-rejser.no, so we will now tackle the large market, says agency manager Morten Meyer from Ruby Rejser.
He states that there were three Norwegians on the maiden voyage from Aalborg. In addition, there were two from Finland, one from England, one from Ireland, one from Iceland, three from the USA and two from Sweden. In addition, there were 13 passengers from Greenland, while the rest of the 189 passengers were from Denmark.
