Nukissiorfiit has a deficit of two-digit million

Yet, the Greenland Energy Council defends the self-governing company.

The self-governing company Nukissiorfiit remains financially challenged.

The large energy company had a deficit of 60.2 million kroner in 2024.

This is reported to the press by the Ministry of Business, Energy, Mineral Resources, Justice and Equality.

– Nukissiorfiit’s financial imbalance is a well-known problem. Nukissiorfiit’s income and expenses are not related, and we have had to acknowledge that for many years, writes Naalakkersuisoq for Energy Naaja H. Nathanielsen (IA) in a press release.

Persistent deficit

According to the annual accounts, Nukissiorfiit has had an average annual deficit of almost 82 million kroner in the past five financial years.

But according to the press release from the Greenland Government, a plan has now been put in place to create a balance between income and expenditure.

– It is important for me as the responsible naalakkersuisoq for the energy area to cooperate on the challenges that Nukissiorfiit faces. Nukissiorfiit is an indispensable supplier of electricity, water and heat to society, and this requires a stable supply, writes Naaja H. Nathanielsen.

Nukissiorfiit also had a deficit of 86.2 million kroner in 2023.

But it’s not just the deficits that are the problem. The company has previously announced that it will need 1.8 billion kroner in 2022 to renovate assets.
