Siumut will hold an extraordinary general meeting in Nuuk on June 28, where the election of a new chairman will be the main item on the agenda, Siumut’s secretariat informs KNR.

There were not many victories to be had for Siumut in the Inatsisartut election in March. It ended up being a historically bad election for the party.

In the 2021 Inatsisartut election, the party received 7,986 votes, but in the most recent election, the old, often governing party only received 4,210 votes. Things didn’t go well for the party’s chairman, Erik Jensen, either. In the 2021 election, he received 1,186 personal votes, but this year that number of votes was almost halved with 645 votes.

Erik Jensen therefore resigned as chairman after the election, and Vivian Motzfeldt, who until then had held the position of deputy chairman, was appointed as interim chairman.

    – Erik wants to withdraw completely from the management of Siumut. However, this does not mean that he is out of Siumut. As an elected official, he wants to continue working for Siumut, rather than being part of the main board, said Vivian Motzfeldt.

According to the party’s statutes, the vice-chairman must take over as interim chair if the incumbent chair resigns during the election period. Therefore, Vivian Motzfeldt is currently acting chair.

    Stiller op

But now it must finally be decided who will lead Siumut.

The party will hold an extraordinary general meeting this summer, which will take place in Nuuk on June 28. The main item on the agenda will be the election of a new chairman for the party.

This is reported by Siumut’s secretariat to KNR.

Vivian Motzfeldt wants to be the party chairwoman full-time. That is why she is running as a candidate for chairwoman at the extraordinary general meeting.

She informed KNR after this year’s election to Inatsisartut.

Following Eriks Jensen’s decision, no new member has been added to the main board. The current members will continue their work until the summer.
