Siumut politicians are frustrated with the lack of response in the municipality of Qeqertalik
A political majority Municipality of Qeqertalik has entered into an agreement to further develop the current structure. However, neither the direction of development nor a financing plan has been presented, and this is causing internal concern.
The opposition in Qeqertalik Municipality is now a big question mark.
Last month it emerged that the structure in the municipality will continue. A structure that has previously been criticized for not functioning, as citizens experience being unable to get through to the municipality.
The agreement between Demokraatit, Inuit Ataqatigiit and Naleraq, which now form the municipal council, states that the structure must continue, but be developed.

Yet the mayor of Qeqertalik Municipality, Simigaq Heilmann from Demokraatit, has not wanted to elaborate on how the development will take place. And the lack of clarification is causing dissatisfaction among the largest opposition party, Siumut.
– When you announce so little concretely to the citizens about what you intend to do, it is very unsafe for us.
– As I understand it, the message from the municipal council is that they do not yet know what to do. But now they are starting to shape the board of the municipality, and that is criticizable, says the chairman of Siumut’s group, Aqqa Samuelsen, to KNR.
Forvirret
If it’s up to Aqqalu Samuelsen, the mayor, Simigaq Heilmann, has not answered how the municipality’s finances should be prioritized in connection with the planned structural development.
According to the opposition, this is evidence of poor political leadership and a failure towards the citizens, says Aqqa Samulelsen.
– The partners have not presented any proposals for improvements or how it should be financed. It is deeply frustrating both as a citizen and as an elected official to be left without answers. What is going to happen?
Siumut: They trust others
The mayor has previously told KNR that it is the municipal council that should discuss how the development should be implemented. But according to Siumut, it should be the coalition itself that takes the lead with concrete proposals.
– The leading parties should first present their own proposals. But that is not happening in this situation, notes Aqqa Samuelsen.
– We expect the new leaders to have goals and visions. Therefore, they have a responsibility for an action plan instead of relying on others, he says.
