TAAK criticizes: Why should the halls stay closed all summer?

If we want to be the world’s most active country, we must also open our doors in the summer, this is the message from TAAK in response to the criticism that the halls are kept closed in the summer.

Summer is upon us. It’s the time when many people enjoy nature, go sailing, hunt, and participate in outdoor activities.

    Summertime is upon us.Announcement

It is both healthy and good for body and soul.

    – But while we enjoy the summer, we must ask a question that is on our minds at this time: Why are the halls closed over the summer?, writes Bjørk Lange Olsen on behalf of the board of TAAK.

    – Has it become a tradition because “we usually do it”? Or is it about resources, staffing or something else entirely?

From TAAK’s side, they want to raise the issue and encourage an open dialogue about whether this practice still serves society in the best possible way.

    – Our experience and contact with associations and families shows that many, especially children and young people, miss the activities that normally take place in the halls.

    – The halls are more than just sports facilities. They are gathering places for physical activity, social interaction and community. This applies not only to handball, but to a wide range of sports and activities.

    Can we achieve the ambition?

He also writes that Greenland and GIF have a vision, which they in TAAK fully support, of becoming the world’s most physically active country by 2030.

    – If we are to achieve this ambition, and all the other ambitions we have within sport in Greenland, we should ensure access to the facilities that make sport and physical activity possible, also in the summer months.

While we relax in the summer, several handball clubs participate in tournaments and training camps for children and young people in Denmark during the summer.

    – These require preparation and training, which is difficult when the halls are closed. This puts us at a disadvantage in relation to the development we otherwise want.

    – We therefore ask the question: Does a complete summer closure of the halls still serve the best purpose for our children, young people and society? Or has the time come to think differently? With this press release we call for open debate, reflection and hopefully also action. Let us work together for a more active Greenland – preferably all year round, concludes Bjørk Lange Olsen, treasurer, on behalf of the board of TAAK.
