Athletes Excel at Arctic Winter Games 2026: A Medal Surge for Team Kalaallit Nunaat
On Tuesday, Petra Amossen made headlines by setting both a new world record and an Arctic Winter Games (AWG) record in the two-foot high kick for women. This marks a remarkable achievement amid a plethora of successes for Team Kalaallit Nunaat competing in the Arctic Winter Games.
As the second day of the highly anticipated Arctic Winter Games 2026 comes to a close, Team Kalaallit Nunaat has already made a strong impression, with athletes accruing a total of 21 medals—10 gold, 4 silver, and 7 bronze. This initial tally showcases not only the fierce competitiveness of the team but also their mastery in traditional sports like Arctic Sports and Dene Games.
With winter sports events like badminton still ahead in the schedule, and snowboarding yielding a couple of fourth and fifth-place finishes, the excitement continues to build. The AWG will unfold through Saturday, culminating in a grand closing ceremony that promises to celebrate the athletes’ achievements.
Gold Medal Highlights
Among the standout performances so far, Inuuteq Josefsen clinched gold in the head pull for men in the Arctic Sport category, while Paninnguaq Qvist and Minik Platou triumphed in stick pull for women and men, respectively, in the Dene Games. Notably, siblings Arnartaq and Nunni Kleist Brønlund shone in the table tennis doubles for U15 women. The men’s U15 doubles team, consisting of Inuk Mozfeldt and Minik Poulsen, also struck gold, as did the U18 ladies’ duo, Uiloq Dahl and Uiloq-Amaliannguaq Jakobsen.
Randi Zeeb Sigurdsen took gold in the knee jump for U17 ladies, while Majka Qvist excelled in the snow snake event for women. Petra Amossen, besides her record-breaking achievement, also secured gold in the two-foot high kick.
The table tennis teams have collectively secured three gold medals and one silver.
Silver Medal Earners
In the silver category, Inunnguaq Amossen made a notable contribution by winning silver in the two-foot high kick for U17 men. Aviana Kristiansen and Ulloriaq Kreutzmann showcased their skills with silver medals in stick pull for U18 ladies and table tennis doubles for U18 men, respectively. Edvard Kruse excelled in the snow snake, capturing silver in the men’s open category.

Bronze Medal Achievements
The bronze medal round also featured compelling performances. Petra Amossen added another accolade to her name with a bronze in the triple jump for women, while Abia Zeeb and Kristine Sigurdsen both brought home bronze medals in the men’s and women’s open categories of the triple jump and stick pull, respectively. Other notable bronze medalists included Brian Tobiassen in the knee jump for U17 men, and Lars Muumu Jeremiassen, who competed in the two-foot high kick.
