New emergency aid to Gaza will help with water, health and investigations into torture and war crimes.
The humanitarian situation in Gaza is at a low point.
Therefore, the Danish government is once again sending millions to relief work in the area, which has been hard hit by the war between Hamas and Israel.
This is reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a press release.
This time the contribution is 55 million kroner. Money that will be distributed between the UN organizations UNRWA, WHO and the NGO Dignity.
– The humanitarian situation in Gaza has not been worse since the conflict began almost two years ago, says Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen (M) in the statement.
The Danish government has sent repeated support packages to the Palestinians since 2023.
Making a tangible difference
Overall, the donations amount to around 930 million kroner.
This package has three different sieves.
30 out of the 55 million kroner will go to UNRWA, which is the central infrastructure for humanitarian activities in Gaza.
It is through this organization that around half of all medical consultations in Gaza are carried out, and UNRWA distributes over three million liters of water per day, writes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The support to the World Health Organization WHO of 20 million kroner is intended to give Palestinians better access to basic healthcare services.
And the support for Dignity of 5 million kroner is to investigate suspicions of torture and other possible war crimes during the war in Gaza.
It will also help provide psychosocial assistance to up to 1,200 traumatized Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank.
– Denmark has significantly increased its support for the civilian population in Gaza in recent years, and today we are launching another support package that will make a concrete difference for the Palestinian civilians, says Lars Løkke Rasmussen in the press release.
