The defense is advancing rapidly in Greenland – now citizens are invited to a meeting

Although the Greenland government wants low tension, military activity has increased over the summer. Arctic Command invites citizens to dialogue in Nuuk.

The Armed Forces’ rearmament in Greenland has progressed rapidly during the summer.

Citizens in Nuuk, Sisimiut and Kangerlussuaq in particular have already seen and heard the new EH-101 helicopters in action, just as the Danish army has conducted training exercises in the area.

This is happening despite the fact that the Greenland government’s own foreign policy strategy states that:

‘Greenland fundamentally does not want an increased military presence, and that new military initiatives are based on contributions to maintaining low voltage.’

Citizens are invited to a meeting

Now the head of Arctic Command, Major General Søren Andersen, invites to a citizens’ meeting about the armament.

It will take place in Godthåbshallen in Nuuk on Sunday at 3:00 PM.

At the meeting, Arctic Command will give a presentation on the background to the military reinforcement and present a timeline for upcoming activities.

    – We look forward to meeting you and to an open dialogue with the citizens of Nuuk, writes Arctic Command in a press release.
