The payment of salaries to employees in all municipalities is delayed.

The municipalities have announced that salary payments have been delayed. This is because banks were closed yesterday, Thursday, on the occasion of Constitution Day in Denmark.

Yesterday, Thursday, was Constitution Day in Denmark, and in connection with that, the banks were closed. This has had a direct impact on the banking system in Greenland.

Several citizens – including those who receive a salary every 14 days or receive public benefits such as unemployment benefits – have therefore not received their money on Friday as expected.

All municipalities in Greenland have announced that payments are delayed.

– It should be noted that all citizens will receive their payments delayed, and that they will not be deposited until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week at the earliest. The delay is due to the fact that banks in Denmark were closed today, June 5, on the occasion of Constitution Day, Qeqqata Kommunia wrote yesterday on their Facebook page.

Several citizens have pointed out in the comment boxes that the municipalities should have known about the bank closure in advance and could have planned the payments differently.

Kujalleq Municipality and Avannaata Municipality write that they are working to get salaries paid during Friday.

Sermersooq Municipality informs that the payments will be made on June 10th.

Qeqertalik Municipality and Qeqqata Municipality announce that the money will first be on the account during the afternoon of June 10.
