Trump leaves G7 summit over Middle East conflict

Donald Trump has called a meeting of the US National Security Council, several American media outlets report.

US President Donald Trump leaves the G7 leaders’ meeting in Canada ahead of schedule.

The White House announced this on Tuesday night Danish time.

On Monday evening local time, he will attend a dinner, after which he will fly back to Washington D.C., writes White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt in a post on X.

– President Trump had a good day at the G7, even signing a comprehensive trade deal with the UK and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

– Much has been achieved, but because of what is happening in the Middle East, Trump will leave the meeting tonight after the dinner for the heads of state, writes Leavitt.

Trump was scheduled to attend the G7 meeting through Tuesday, writes the American media outlet CNN.

Security Council Meeting

White House officials tell several American media outlets that Trump has called a meeting of the National Security Council.

Donald Trump himself says it is necessary to leave the meeting.

– I have to be back as soon as I can, he tells reporters at the G7 meeting.

Also attending the meeting in Kananaskis, Canada, is US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

He is also returning to Washington D.C., writes CBS News.

Defense Minister Pete Hegseth has also thrown away what he has in his hands, writes the news agency AP.

He is heading to the so-called “situation room” in the White House to participate in the National Security Council meeting.

Conflict between Iran and Israel has escalated

Israel and Iran have exchanged fierce airstrikes in recent days. The conflict between the two countries escalated after Israel attacked several nuclear targets in Iran on Friday night.

In addition to the United States, the G7 consists of Canada, France, Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom and Germany, while the EU also participates in the meetings.

On the agenda for the summit in Canada are both the war in Ukraine and the conflict between Iran and Israel.

In many ways, the meeting did not go as several European leaders had hoped.

Trump has used the opportunity to criticize the fact that Russia, led by President Vladimir Putin, is no longer part of the group, which was previously called the G8.

At the same time, according to several media outlets, Trump has refused to sign a draft joint statement from the countries calling for a de-escalation of the conflict between Israel and Iran.

However, French President Emmanuel Macron says, according to Reuters, that it is positive that Trump is leaving the meeting early.

According to Macron, the US has proposed that Israel and Iran enter into a ceasefire.

– A proposal has been made, specifically to get a ceasefire and take the initiative for broader discussions, he says.

However, Trump denies that he has left the G7 meeting to work on a ceasefire between Iran and Israel.

– Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a ceasefire. It is much bigger than that. Whether it is intentional or not, Emmanuel has misunderstood, writes Trump on Truth Social.
