The Greenland Police and the fire department have now lifted the blockade they set up in part of the city center in Nuuk due to a gas leak.

A gas leak in Nuuk city center is currently blocking large parts of Nuuk city center.

This is what the Greenland Police writes on Facebook.

Police are urging everyone to close windows and avoid the area.

    KNR is monitoring the situation.

14.42: Police and fire brigade are currently working at some doors on the side of Brugseni, facing Kuussuaq, and firefighters are ready with a fire hose, says KNR’s reporter on the scene.

2:45 p.m.: The fire department and the authorities have moved away from Brugensi again.

There are two fire engines, a fire chief and three police cars blocking the area.

There are blockages in the direction towards the school, in the direction towards Tuapannguit and towards Nuuk Center.

At 2:56 p.m., the police and fire department lifted the blockade again. The incident commander at Nuuk Fire Department subsequently said that the entire building at Imaneq 23, which is a dormitory and in the same building is located, among other things, the municipality’s environmental and technical department, was evacuated.

    – Upon arrival, we cordoned off the area within a radius of one hundred meters and sent four smoke divers into the building to evacuate people, says Fire Chief Jens Mikkelsen.

The smoke divers found no leak, and you can no longer smell the gas, says the incident commander.

    – We have therefore stopped the operation, and the police are now investigating further to find the place where the gas came from, says Jens Mikkelsen.

But citizens can now safely move around the area again.
