It’s time to plant crops
Summer is just around the corner and it’s time to tidy up the greenhouse and hike in the backcountry, says outdoor enthusiast Jan Erik Pedersen.
– Right now there are a lot of seagull eggs, and if you are lucky enough to find a nest with 1-2 eggs in it, it is ok to take them. But not if there are more, because then they have been incubated, says outdoor enthusiast Jan Erik Pedersen, who enjoys hiking in nature and finding eggs and spotting animals.
– Right now isAnnouncement
– Spring and summer mean lots of hiking, he says. Renovating a cabin Jan Erik Pedersen is also busy renovating his father’s old cabin after he passed away a few years ago. The cabin, which is located in the area where Jan Erik Pedersen’s grandfather was born, was one of the first cabins built there in 1974-76.
– It’s a cozy cabin, but it needs a little love. So does the greenhouse, where I’m planting strawberries, radishes, beets, carrots and beetroot.
In recent years, Jan Erik Pedersen has primarily used the cabin as a starting point for grouse hunting. Last year in particular, there were many grouse in the area. In addition, there were also quite a few reindeer and hares.
Flotte torsk
This year, fishing for female stonefish was extended until the end of June because it was so cold in both April and May. And the high cod prices have also prompted many to fish for cod themselves. Including Jan Erik Pedersen.
– You can catch the best cod right now. In addition, there are many people who catch redfish and halibut, and then the trout fishing starts on July 15. I’m looking forward to that. And then there’s the reindeer hunt in August to look forward to.

In addition, it’s hiking season.
– Even though it has been a cold spring, it is really nice when the sun comes out and people come out of their hibernation. There is a good atmosphere, and we also experience that there are still many who want to hike to the top of Quassussuaq on Tuesdays, says Jan Erik Pedersen, who has organized the hikes “Walk away from cancer – life is a gift” since 2017.
