Anticipation Grows for Qaqortoq’s New Airport as Air Greenland Launches Ticket Sales
We await the official announcement, but in a promising development, Air Greenland has begun selling tickets for flights to the long-anticipated new airport in South Greenland, set to debut in April.
Nestled in the picturesque town of Qaqortoq, the airport will feature a new 1,500-meter runway, enhancing connectivity and travel options for residents and visitors alike.
According to Air Greenland’s booking system, direct flights between Nuuk and Qaqortoq are scheduled to commence on April 16, 2026. This date is particularly significant, as it coincides with the final departures from Narsarsuaq, after which the old airstrip will be converted into a heliport.
While Greenland Airports is yet to confirm an official opening date, they have indicated they are aiming for the second quarter of 2026 – a timeframe that spans from April to June. In a recent update shared on Facebook, the organization expressed optimism about the progress, noting that new runway stripes have already been laid at the future airport site.
As the excitement builds in Qaqortoq, travelers eagerly anticipate a new era of air travel that promises to enhance accessibility to this stunning corner of Greenland.
