Qaqortoq Blaze Sends Residents to Safety

On Saturday evening, a fire erupted in Qaqortoq, specifically in Block A of Poul Ibsensvej 213. The alarm was raised around 8:20 p.m., with reports indicating that the first floor—home to two or three apartments—was engulfed in an intense heat.

Thomas Jeppesen, the head of duty at the Greenland Police, confirmed the severity of the blaze.

“The fire service and police responded swiftly and managed to extinguish the flames,” he remarked, adding that fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

In the aftermath of the fire, residents of Block A were relocated to ensure their safety overnight.

As for the investigation, police will be on-site this morning, Sunday, to conduct a thorough examination and ascertain the potential cause of the incident.

    Community Impact

During the fire, a local event was taking place at the town’s football pitch, where numerous children and young people were present, witnessing the unfolding emergency. In light of this, the Family Center in Qaqortoq will be open today from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for anyone who wishes to discuss the incident and express their feelings.

Kommune Kujalleq has shared this information on their Facebook page, emphasizing the importance of community support during such challenging times.
