The fishing and trapping organization KNAPK welcomes new leadership: Pele Blytmann takes the helm
Pele Blytmann from Ilulissat has been elected as the new chairman of KNAPK, marking a significant shift in the organization’s leadership.
In a closely contested election, Blytmann emerged victorious with 17 votes, defeating incumbent chairman Nikkulaat Jeremiassen, who garnered just seven votes. This change comes on the heels of Jeremiassen’s re-election in 2021, during which he succeeded Henrik Sandgreen. Shortly after stepping down, Sandgreen played a pivotal role in founding a new organization for coastal shrimp fishermen, known as QAK, amid growing discontent with KNAPK’s management.
The recent election unfolded at KNAPK’s general meeting in Ilulissat this week, where not only was Blytmann elected, but Jens Peter Kielsen from Qaqortoq was also chosen as the new vice-chairman. This shift in leadership signals a fresh direction for the organization as it navigates the challenges facing the fishing and trapping community.
The enthusiasm surrounding Blytmann’s election reflects a desire for renewed energy and focus within KNAPK, especially as it seeks to address the concerns of its members—particularly those who have previously felt marginalized.
