Greenland Travel Enhances Focus on South Greenland with New Qaqortoq Office
As the excitement surrounding Greenland’s evolving infrastructure continues, Greenland Travel is making strategic moves to bolster tourism in the South Greenland region. The company marked the opening of its new office in Qaqortoq on December 3rd, a decision timed perfectly with the anticipated launch of the new regional airport in April.
The new office, situated within Disko Line’s premises at the shipyard, is manned by Tina Lauritsen. After years at Greenland Travel’s Copenhagen branch, Lauritsen is thrilled to return to her roots. “After so many years away, I felt a calling to come home and reconnect with my family,” she shared. “The upcoming airport will inject a fresh energy into Qaqortoq, creating a wealth of opportunities for both the town and the surrounding area. I’m excited to contribute to this growth in the coming years.”
As a key member of the Air Greenland group, Greenland Travel stands as the largest travel agency in the nation, catering to both business and leisure travelers. Their digital platform, Arctic Excursions, offers a variety of excursions across Greenland, further enhancing the travel experience.
Local tourism operators in South Greenland are already gearing up, reflecting a growing interest in this picturesque part of the world.
Promoting Regional Tourism
The launch of the new office underscores Greenland Travel’s commitment to staying close to its core clientele while fostering economic development in the region. Mikkel Søndergård, the director, emphasized the importance of local presence: “For some time, we have been exploring the opportunity to establish ourselves in Qaqortoq, given our ongoing collaborations with local businesses and public institutions. The new infrastructure, along with more transport and accommodation options, complicates the travel landscape, and we are here to provide guidance and seamless logistics for business travelers throughout Greenland.”
Greenland Travel aims to further energize tourism in South Greenland through the Arctic Excursions platform. “This region is truly special, and I eagerly anticipate our collective efforts to unveil and promote its myriad attractions, benefiting both local operators and our visitors,” said Søndergård.
The Qaqortoq office marks Greenland Travel’s fourth location in the country, joining existing offices in Nuuk, Ilulissat, and Sisimiut. With a workforce of 52 employees—spanning both national and international travel—the company remains dedicated to ensuring unforgettable experiences for travelers venturing to and through Greenland.
