Denmark is stepping up to assist Greenland in navigating its current emergency situation, as outlined in a recent press release from Naalakkersuisut.

Presently in Denmark, Peter Borg, the Naalakkersuisut for Fisheries, Catching, Agriculture, Self-sufficiency, and Environment, met with Torsten Schack Pedersen, the Minister for Community Security and Emergency Preparedness.

Borg emphasized the robust foundation of preparedness already established in Greenland. Following their productive discussions, he noted that the collaboration between the two regions is set to deepen, both internally and with their closest partners. “Naalakkersuisut appreciates the support from Denmark in bolstering Greenland’s emergency readiness,” Borg stated.

While the specifics of Denmark’s assistance remain unclear, the press release did not specify the particular needs of Greenland’s emergency services.

Minister Schack Pedersen underscored the importance of solidarity in times of crisis, affirming, “We stand ready to support Greenland’s preparedness, including assistance from the Emergency Management Agency and the Agency for Social Security.”
