Attempted Murder and Rape Case in Qaqortoq Heads to Court

On the early morning of April 17, 2025, a harrowing incident unfolded in the town of Qaqortoq, where a woman was the target of an attempted murder and sexual assault. As the case advances, the accused now finds himself in the Sermersooq Circuit Court, facing serious charges that could lead to an indefinite commitment.

The prosecution is advocating for his placement in a Danish psychiatric hospital without a set release date, underscoring the gravity of the situation.

    A Desperate Encounter

According to court documents, the defendant allegedly attempted to kill the woman by stabbing her with a knife. Though the brutal act did not result in her death, the woman bravely managed to escape after falling to the floor. In a chilling exchange, he reportedly asked her, “Do you want to die quietly or will you die in pain?”

    Charges of Attempted Rape

Alongside the attempted murder charge, the man also faces accusations of attempted rape during the same attack. Since his arrest in April, he has been held in a psychiatric facility in Denmark. The prosecution stresses the necessity of his indefinite confinement following the court proceedings.

While the case originates from Qaqortoq, logistical considerations require it to be heard in Nuuk, as explained by the prosecution to KNR.

As the trial unfolds, the community remains on edge, grappling with the gravity of these violent crimes.
