Expanding Car Rental Services in Nuuk: A Growing Market

Nuuk’s landscape is evolving, as evidenced by the rapid increase in car rental options over recent years. This trend reflects a burgeoning demand driven by various projects within the city, as well as the needs of both businesses and individuals seeking vehicles for short and extended periods. Among the newest entrants in this arena is Nuuk Rental, which is making strides by introducing a shuttle service to complement its offerings.

“Things are going remarkably well,” shares Nick Olsen, the owner of Nuuk Rentals. Alongside Looqi Sandgreen, part of the newly launched subsidiary Shuttle.gl—which focuses on car rental with drivers—Olsen is excited about the growth unfolding around them.

Launched in 2023, Nuuk Rental has experienced a meteoric rise, expanding from a modest fleet of 10 cars to over 50 in just a year. This considerable growth caters to both local residents and visitors alike. The company has adeptly identified a gap in the market for shuttle services, positioning itself to meet the rising demand efficiently.

“We’re committed to being part of Nuuk’s transformation into an international destination for tourism and business,” Olsen explains. By establishing Shuttle.gl, the company aims to elevate the quality of transport solutions available in the city. This new enterprise allows them to manage larger transportation needs, be it for cruise ships, official visits, or delegations requiring seamless travel arrangements.

Moreover, Nuuk Rental has noted an uptick in requests for premium services since the opening of Nuuk Airport in November 2024. The demand for high-quality transport has surged, prompting the company to adapt and expand its fleet.

“Our focus is on providing excellent service to local citizens, businesses, and visitors. We’re well aware that with the growth of Nuuk as a destination, reliable transport is vital,” Olsen remarks. He elucidates further, “We also offer premium vehicles for business clients who expect comfort during their stay.”

In terms of fleet capabilities, Nuuk Rental’s vehicles predominantly consist of electric and hybrid models, emphasizing a commitment to sustainability. The company has also invested in luxury vehicles, like the Mercedes GLE 400e, and as of early May, it will add two Mercedes-Benz Sprinter buses that can accommodate up to 22 passengers each. These additions will cater specifically to larger groups, such as cruise tourists and various delegations.

“We aim to ensure that our transport solutions are stable and professional, regardless of the client—whether an individual or a large group,” Olsen states, encapsulating the service ethos driving Nuuk Rental’s operations.

As Nuuk continues to grow, so too does the potential for innovative transport solutions tailored to meet the evolving demands of this vibrant city.
