In a candid message highlighting the pressing need for improved shipping logistics during winter months, the director of Rodebay Fish ApS—a fish factory located in the remote settlement of Oqaatsut—has underscored the urgency of maritime supply to local communities.

Underlining the significance of this issue, he pointed out that, even in the absence of ice, Royal Arctic Line’s vessels should make the journey to these settlements. As the factory’s freezer room fills up rapidly, there is a looming concern: without timely shipments, operations could face an abrupt halt for nearly two months. This scenario not only threatens local fishery workers but also endangers the vital livelihood of the community depending on these supplies.

The call for more consistent winter shipping is a reminder of the challenges faced by settlements in the Arctic, where transportation remains a seasonal affair, often dictating the rhythm of daily life. As the freezer’s days dwindle, the need for action has never been clearer.
