Dr. Phil Set to Host Documentary on Oil Exploration in Greenland
In a bold venture, the well-known American television host Dr. Phil McGraw is slated to head to Greenland this July. His mission? To anchor a new documentary series focused on oil exploration in the pristine landscapes of East Greenland.
This exciting project, titled Arctic Wildcatters, will unfold over six episodes. The series will delve into the ambitions of Greenland Energy, an American-owned oil company, as they seek to uncover oil reserves in Jameson Land. According to a press release from Greenland Energy, this venture is a collaboration with Dr. Phil’s own production company, Envoy Media.
In an interview with NewsNation, Dr. Phil expressed palpable enthusiasm about the project. “If this develops as they expect—and I truly believe they’re onto something significant—it will irrevocably alter both Greenland and the lives of its people,” he remarked.
A Promising Future
Greenland Energy has asserted its expectation to discover a staggering 13 billion barrels of oil in the region. However, the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) offers a more tempered estimate, suggesting that about 350 million barrels is a more realistic figure, though this number remains surrounded by uncertainty.
Should the company strike gold—figuratively speaking—Phil McGraw believes the implications could resonate far beyond Greenland’s shores. “This would not just be a monumental gain for the local community; it would have substantial effects on the global stage as well. A significant portion of this oil would flow to Europe, alleviating some of the stranglehold currently exercised by countries controlling crucial waterways, such as the Strait of Hormuz. This could have implications for both the European and American markets,” he explained to NewsNation.
Engaging the Community
The documentary’s origins trace back to a meeting with Greenland Energy’s CEO and Chairman. Just last week, Robert Price, the American director of Greenland Energy, along with geologist and operations director Olga Solovieva, hosted a community meeting in Ittoqqortoormiit, where local residents voiced their concerns about the oil project.
In response, Múte B. Egede, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Business, and Raw Materials, stated that the government is actively planning to hold its own civic meeting to discuss the oil initiative. He also took the opportunity to distance himself from some of the statements made by Greenland Energy, cautioning that, “The company’s announcements to the public do not always reflect the actual conditions.”
According to the release from Greenland Energy, the highly anticipated documentary series is expected to premiere in late summer 2026.
Dr. Phil McGraw, widely recognized for his eponymous talk show, which has captivated audiences since its launch in 2002, also has a notable public profile, including his support for former President Donald Trump. As this project unfolds, all eyes will be on its impact—both for the people of Greenland and the global community at large.
