KNI Closes Warehouse Following Nuuk Imeq Shutdown

In early 2024, the closure of Nuuk Imeq marked a significant shift in the beverage distribution landscape in Greenland. With stores and customers now sourcing soda and beer directly from suppliers, KNI has announced that it will cease warehouse operations, leading to the unfortunate redundancy of 14 employees.

KNI’s warehouse in the historic old harbor of Nuuk is one of several that will no longer operate due to this structural change. As the company’s Human Resources, Communication, and Sustainability Director, Juliane Henningsen Heilmann, explained, the warehouse model was established when KNI managed the distribution of beverages like beer and water. However, recent legislative changes have altered this dynamic, allowing customers to receive products straight from suppliers.

“The original function of the warehouse has ceased to exist,” said Heilmann. “With the bottling plant closed, the need for our distribution services has diminished.”

Despite this shift and the associated job losses, KNI has reassured the public that there are no plans for further closures in the near future.
