A SAR operation at sea was launched on Friday night in the area between Sisimiut and Itilleq. This was reported by Preben Kleist, head of the Greenland Police.

The police received a report from the missing person’s family shortly after midnight, at 00:40. Shortly afterwards, a major search operation was launched between the Greenland Police and the Arctic Command, involving a police boat, helicopter and volunteers.

John Dahl was sailing in a white POCA 505 with a 90 horsepower outboard motor. At an unknown time on Thursday, he sailed from Sisimiut towards Itilleq, and no one has had contact with him since, the watch commander says.

According to the police, there may also be a 16-year-old girl on board, but this has not yet been confirmed. The police are working to clarify the situation.

    – We urge citizens, especially those sailing between Sisimiut and Itelleq, to be aware and contact the police if they have information or observe anything relevant, says Preben Kleist.

The police in Sisimiut can be contacted at 70 13 22. And the Greenland Police can be contacted at 70 14 48.
