Assut Adventures Aims to Elevate Greenland as a Trail Running Destination

With grand plans and an ambitious spirit, the newly established Assut Adventures is set to position Greenland as a premier destination for trail runners worldwide. This August 1st, the company will host the inaugural Nuuk Five Peaks Mountain Challenge—marking Greenland’s first race sanctioned by the UTMB Index.

Participants will navigate the breathtaking terrain surrounding Nuuk, scaling five formidable peaks: Quassussuaq, the twin peaks of Ukkussissak, Isikkivik, and Kuanninnguit. The route spans 25 kilometers, featuring an ascent of about 2,000 meters. For those seeking a shorter experience, the Nuuk Trail 10K offers a 10-kilometer course with an elevation gain of 700 meters, accommodating both runners and walkers alike.

    Aiming for Global Recognition

At the helm of Assut Adventures are three seasoned trail runners driven to transform the Nuuk Five Peaks into an international attraction within a few short years. “Our goal is to craft a high-quality race that stands on par with global standards,” stated Erna Broberg, one of the company’s founders. “Residents of Nuuk have likely noticed improvements to the route markings, as we’re committed to ensuring the race is a complete experience. This includes an evening dinner and award ceremony, celebrating our participants.”

The organizers bring a wealth of knowledge from international trail races and event management. Patrick Bech, a skilled ultra-distance runner and race director for the event, elaborated on the vision: “We’re leveraging our experiences from various international events to shape this race. We recognize that the first few years are vital for building local connections and enhancing our visibility beyond our shores. Thankfully, we’ve received tremendous support from organizations that see the potential in our event, including Visit Nuuk, the Bank of Greenland’s Business Foundation, Greenland Brewhouse, and Air Greenland.”

    Welcoming Local Participation

While the primary goal is to attract international runners, the event is equally inviting to local participants. Both seasoned athletes and casual exercisers can join in the challenge, whether they choose the 25-kilometer Five Peaks route or the more accessible 10-kilometer option.

Assut Adventures is gearing up for what promises to be an exhilarating event that not only showcases Greenland’s stunning landscapes but also fosters a vibrant community spirit among trail runners, both near and far. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newcomer, come join the adventure in the breathtaking peaks of Nuuk.
